Put A Little Magic In

by Diane Graebner

When I was a child and things went wrong,
my mother used to make for me

A potion, made with love and care
from her special, secret recipe.

"My child," she'd say, "though rain may fall
upon your searching, upturned face."

"Though all the world may seem, at times
to be a frightening, scary place."

"Though you may wonder through your tears,
if anyone believes in you."

"Just put a little magic in; put a little magic in;
and watch your dreams come true."

Put a little magic in
Add a rainbow, and some sun
Mix in moonbeams, 'till it's done
Separate the silver lining
From a stormy day
Add a dash of starlight
And the twinkle of an eye
Blend it well with optimism
And a cheery point-of-view
But, put a little magic in,
Put a little magic in,
Put a little magic in
And watch your dreams come true.

Right now you wonder what to do,
to make a brighter day appear.

You search for happiness and joy,
knowing that it's somewhere near.

Just follow Mother's recipe
the ingredients aren't hard to find

And mix a pot of happy days
to leave the sad ones far behind.

But as you mix, and stir and pour
remember what you have to do:

Just put a little magic in, put a little magic in,
and watch your dreams come true!

Put a little magic in
Add a rainbow, and some sun
Mix in moonbeams, 'till it's done
Separate the silver lining
From a stormy day
Add a dash of starlight
And the twinkle of an eye
Blend it well with optimism
And a cheery point-of-view
But, put a little magic in,
Put a little magic in,
Put a little magic in
And watch your dreams come true.
