November 10, 1973, in Missouri

by Helen Graebner

This is a sky blue day,
A red, gold and crimson day.
A day to be glad in.
A day to plant tulips
And hyacinths
And daffodils,
So that grey sky winter days,
Snowy, blowy freezy days
May be warmed by the promise
Of the little brown bulbs
Under the soil
Folding the dreams
Of the red and gold
And blue and purple blooms
Tightly in their white hearts
Until spring.
