Al

by Helen Graebner

Dear Heart, you took the light,
The laughter and the fun,
And left me only night
With no sweet, shining sun.

You took the love we had,
The sharing of all things,
And left me lone and sad
Where silence is and no bird sings.

Words tremble on my lips --
You are not here to listen.
I hunger for your kiss --
On my cheeks tears glisten.

I'm trying to remember
That living must go on,
But in this bleak November
I only know you're gone.
